We still live close to the land
From barrenland caribou to mountain sheep, goats, and the woolly muskox we offer a range of wildlife species unmatched in most of Canada. Our Northwest Territories animals range freely in a landscape of mountains, plains, forest and tundra that is largely unchanged since the ice age. Beluga, bowhead whales, polar bear, walrus and seals are found along our Arctic coast. Muskoxen, Arctic foxes and wolves can be found on the islands to the north, as well as on the mainland. Grizzly, Dall’s sheep, mountain goats and moose live in the mountains. Black bears, bison or wood buffalo, lynx, marten and wolverine inhabit the forested areas.
