Music festivals in the Northwest Teritories are starting to attract the attention they deserve in Canada. These festivals, some dating back 25 years, bring the best of northern, arctic and international talent to the shores of northern lakes each summer. Dene drummers and songwriters, Inuit bands and throat singers take their places on stage with some of the best of North American, Asian and African groups at Folk on the Rocks. Community festivals feature the tea dances and prayer songs of the Dene of the Mackenzie Valley. In the Mackenzie Delta, Inuvialuit drummers and ayayah singers act out traditional stories through dance.
