Day hikes and walking trails
To get a feel for the land, there’s nothing quite like a walk or a day hike. In the Northwest Territories, there are trails galore around most of our communities. Follow a river gorge on a nature trail, or hike over the Precambrian rock to get a geologists view. In the larger northern communities the walking trail systems are often marked and signed. Outfitters and staff at lodges and in some parks offer guided nature hikes, a great way to get the lay of the land. In smaller communities, and along our highways, hiking trails lead to favorite day hike destinations, often by a lake, with a spectacular view of the surrounding landscape. For information on local trails and safe hiking ask at a visitor center, or the band office.
